In Memory of

Sergeant Fred Stanley

2nd/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment
Killed in Action 28th August 1918 Age 32

Fred was the son of Samuel and Hannah Stanley of 109, Earle Street, Earlestown, and the husband of Eveline Adelaide Stanley of 8, Railway View, Earlestown.

He was a compositor at McCorquodale and Co. Ltd. Printworks, where he had worked for fourteen years. The above picture is taken from the McCorquodale Roll of Honour. He enlisted in the army in November 1914.

Fred's name is on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial. He was killed during the Battle of Scarpe. The Official History of the War gives an account of the fighting during which William Corcoran and Henry Daniels were also killed.
