In Memory of

Private Henry Daniels

200176
2nd/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment
Killed in Action 28th August 1918 Age 23

Henry Daniels (SDGW has his name as Harry) was the husband of Mrs. A. E. Daniels of 26, Hotel Street, Earlestown. He was a moulder at the Vulcan Foundry but, according to the WG obituary of 7th September 1918, he "went up with the South Lancashires in 1914". He had been at the front for almost the whole of the war. He had one period in hospital and had been home on leave "in March last".

Henry is buried in St. Martin Calvaire British Cemetery, St. Martin-sur-Cojeul, eight kilometres south south east of Arras, in Plot II, Row B, Grave 16. He was probably killed during the Battle of Scarpe. The Official History of the War gives an account of the fighting during which William Corcoran, who is buried in the adjacent row, and Fred Stanley were also killed.
