It has not as yet been possible to identify this casualty of the Great War. CWGC has nine R. Gees, including two who fought with the Lancashire Fusiliers, both of whom died in the Gallipoli campaign, and one who fought with the South Lancashire Regiment in Mesopotamia. His name appears on the memorial at St. John's Church.
There are examples of misspelling on memorials (e.g. Glibray for Gilvray) but these tend to be recent memorials. The St. John's memorial though is an old wooden one. Any error would probably have been corrected when it was first put up. However, it is possible that the name could be 'R. Dee', i.e. Private Reuben Dee.
