Reuben Dee was a single man who lived with his parents at 44, Brookfield Street, Earlestown. His very brief obituary published in the NEG on 15th September 1916 stated that he had joined "some two years ago" i.e. at the start of the war, and had been in France for about fourteen months. Before enlisting he had worked as a core maker at the Vulcan Foundry.
He was killed during the Battles of the Somme and is buried in Peronne Road Cemetery, in Maricourt, in Plot II, Row H, Grave 29.
