According to SDGW, Private William Jones was born and was resident in Newton-le-Willows. He is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension which is about three kilometres south of Albert.

Private Wallace Jones was born in Earlestown. According to CWGC, he was the son of Jane Jones of The Cottages, Haydock Park, Newton-le-Willows and the late Samuel Oliver Jones and the husband of Mary Elizabeth Jones of Hill Top, Oxenholme, Kendal. He was awarded the Military Medal. His name is on the Soissons Memorial. SDGW has Wallace's date of death as 22nd May, rather than the CWGC's 27th May.

It has not been possible to find an obituary or any other newspaper reference, so it is not possible at this stage to determine which of these two is the the name on the Memorial. In addition Lance Corporal William Jones, 19744 1/4th Bn. Loyal North Lancashire Regiment who was killed in action on 20th September 1917, lived in Ashton-in-Makerfield.
