George lived with his brother at 56, Clarence Street, Earlestown, though he
had originally lived at Legh Street. Before joining the army, he had worked
at the Vulcan Foundry.
The brief obituaries in the NEG and WG of 18th May state that he was officially reported as killed in action but "a friend from the same regiment, who has this week been over on leave, affirms he saw him taken prisoner by the enemy."
The German Spring Offensive started March 21st 1918, and George was clearly lost during the rapid German advance. His name is on the Arras Memorial.
