In Memory of

Private Joseph Gore

1st/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment
Killed in Action 28th August 1918 Age 30

Before joining up, Private Joseph Gore lived with his parents in Mercer Street, Newton, and worked at the Glass Bottle Works in Earlestown.

According to his obituary in the Newton and Earlestown Guardian of September 13th 1918, he enlisted soon after war broke out. He was wounded about twelve months before his death, but went out again when he had recovered. He had been home a fortnight before he was killed.

Joseph is buried in Plot V Row A Grave 28 in H.A.C. Cemetery (the Honourable Artillery Company) in Ecoust - St. Mein which is a village between Arras, Cambrai and Bapaume.
