Private John Ferguson

1414
1st/5th Battalion Manchester Regiment
Killed in Action 28th May 1915 Age 30

Private John Ferguson was the son of Mr J. H. and Mrs M. Ferguson of Elery Cottage, Devonshire Road, Eccles and the husband of Mary Ann Ferguson of 21, Silk Street, Eccles, Manchester.

In the Newton and Earlestown Guardian article published on 4th February 1916 concerning the awarding of the DCM to Coy.S.M. Ben Tripp, it mentions that "Mr and Mrs Tripp have had one grandson killed in the Dardanelles - John Ferguson by name. He was living at Patricroft and joined the 5th Manchesters."

John's name is recorded on the Helles Memorial, in Turkey. The 5th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment was part of the 42nd (East Lancashire) Division.
