In Memory of

Private George William Clarke

6th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment
Died 5th May 1918

Private Clarke lived at Rydal Street and was a clerk employed at Messrs. Swift and Co.'s, Market Street, Earlestown. He died of typhus in hospital at Bayra or Baghdad, in what was at the time Mesopotamia, now modern Iraq, although at the time of publication of his obituary in the NEG of 10th May 1918, Mrs. Clarke had not received detailed information.

George is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery in Plot XVI Row L Grave 12.
