John was the eldest son of the late Hugh Corsar and Marrianne Arbuthnott of Brookside, Newton-le-Willows. His father was a former director of the Vulcan Foundry.
He died of wounds sustained on 16th September during the Battle of the Somme. He is buried in Bronfay Farm Military Cemetery, Bray-sur-Somme, in grave II. C. 17.
John has his own memorial in St. Peter's Church, Newton-le-Willows.
