“Newtons’ Roll of Honour”

Newton and Earlestown Guardian
22nd October 1915

One more son has now departed,
One more gallant soldier gone,
One more mother now in sorrow
Mourning for her dear loved one.

Wilfred Reeves and Arthur Aldred
Gave their lives at Country's call;
So did Private Alec Hunter,
Also Corporal Walter Ball.

Now there's Corporal Harry Bodmer -
His soul with those gallant four -
Five noble lads so brave and true,
Now at peace for evermore.

Who's the next from this small village?
We can only wait and see
Let us pray no more be taken
We can only trust in Thee.

Rest in Peace
