In Memory of

Private Alfred Judson

7699
1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers
Died Of Wounds 8th August 1915 Age 34

According to the obituary published in the Newton and Earlestown Guardian on September 1915, apart from his serving with the army, Alfred had lived all his life in Earlestown. However SDGW gives his place of birth as Marske-on-Sea, Yorkshire (near Saltburn).

Prior to joining the Army on the 19th December 1914, Alfred was employed in the Forge at the Viaduct Works. He was a reservist whose time had expired about four years previously. He had gone through the South African (Boer) War. His name is on the first list of recruits.

He died of wounds while fighting in the Dardanelles and is buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Turkey, in Plot VII Row D Grave 22.

Being with the Lancashire Fusiliers he will have taken place in the famous “Six VCs Before Breakfast” Lancashire Landings.
