In Memory of

Private David Dwyer

2453
1st Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment
Killed in Action 22nd December 1914

CWGC has six D. Dwyers listed. The above soldier is the only one to have any established connection with the area, having lived in Widnes and enlisted in Warrington. It is impossible to make any positive identification of this casualty at the moment.

The following is an account of the actions of the 1st Battalion of the LNL Regiment in December 1914:

"Moved in buses to Vieille Chapelle (21st) then advance to Le Touret. Took part in attack to regain lost trenches near the orchard north-east of Festubert. Went forward 7.20 p.m. and objective gained within the hour.
Casualties - Captains G.H. Smart (West Yorkshire attached) and G.M. Graham (Worcestershire attached) killed, 4 officers wounded, 408 other ranks killed, wounded or missing. Relieved and to Essars. Later to Cambrin."
